As Americans, we seem to like to blame others for our misbehavior, as well as attempting to justify our own misbehavior by pointing fingers at others’ errors. In addition, we seem to have an inherent naiveté about our “heroes”, whether they be historical, musical, political, religious, or athletic. In this podcast, Dr. Mathis lends his views on these and other related issues, as well as some suggestions for society and the individuals who comprise our world.

In a continuation of the previous podcast, Dr. Mathis continues to discuss various rock and jazz artists who set the stage for today’s current musicians. Included in this podcast are various guitars, amps, and effects pedals and how to pick one if you are just starting out to play. Dr. Mathis also talks about some of his experiences, favorite instruments and makers of instrument, and beloved models and makes of instruments, amps, and pedals.

In a different vein, Dr. Mathis will be using this podcast to emphasize the “rock” side of his persona. As such, this podcast will contain various music trivia and facts concerning various artists, songs, instruments, and related history. It’s hoped that the listener will find this a welcome break from the numerous more serious topics that Dr. Mathis has tackled over the past many podcasts.

In this, the fourth installment in the serious of the “Q & A” podcasts, Dr. Mathis continues to address questions and areas of interest posed by listeners to his podcasts. As with prior Q & A podcasts, various topics are discussed. Included in this podcast are child-rearing issues, internet experiences versus “real life” encounters, jealousy and insecurity issues in relationships, suicide prevention with adults and teens, and obesity.

Third Q & A Podcast

In this, the third of the “Q & A” podcasts, Dr. Mathis addresses more questions and areas of interest posed by listeners to his podcasts. As with the previous podcasts of this type, several topics are discussed that include, but are not limited to, dealing with caregiving elderly parents (especially those who have been or are currently abusive), dependent personality disorder, insurance that actually hurts getting appropriate treatment, and hoarding.

In this second “Q & A” podcast, Dr. Mathis continues to address questions and areas of interest posed by listeners to his podcasts. As with the previous Question and Answer podcast, several topics are discussed that include medical diagnoses that mimic psychological ones, meditation for teens, holistic remedies for insomnia, and PTSD (to name a few).

First Q & A Podcast

In response to numerous topic suggestions and general questions, this podcast will focus on responding to several different questions posed by various listeners. While there is no single topic represented on this podcast, the issues posed by several listeners were such that Dr. Mathis was able to do more of a “short answer” format to them (as opposed to dedicating a shorter podcast for each topic posed). Future podcasts will continue to concentrate on areas suggested by listeners, with some being more “full podcasts” on a specific area or a shorter “Q & A” podcasts tackling several topics that lend themselves more to a “short answer” format.

In this first podcast of the new year, Dr. Mathis will mainly focus on how to make and stick to New Years resolutions more effectively. Several suggestions as to how to accomplish this (e.g., social support, pacing, preplanning) will be suggested. Also, news of upcoming events and new happenings on this site will be announced.

19th Podcast

18th Podcast

With the holiday season upon us, not all persons are necessarily happy about this time of year. For various reasons, many people will experience undue stress and/or depression over this usually joyous time. Dr. Mathis will be discussing various aspects of this phenomena in this podcast, as well as how to help minimize and combat the stress and/or depression that might be making this more difficult for many in the general population (both teens and adults).
